US-Iran Ceasefire on Brink as Tehran Alleges Breach Over Lebanon Strikes (X)

New Delhi: Within 24 hours, the ceasefire between the US and Iran is on the verge of collapse. Iran has alleged that three conditions of the ceasefire deal have been violated. Talks for a permanent deal have not even begun in Pakistan yet and the ceasefire seems to be hanging in the balance.

What happened?

The recently announced two-week ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US has deepened into a serious crisis. Iran has clearly warned that if Israel continues attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon, it may not only withdraw from the talks taking place in Islamabad but also withdraw from the ceasefire.

What did Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf say?

On behalf of Iran, its Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that after the violation of three of the 10 key conditions of the ceasefire, neither the ceasefire nor the talks have any meaning.

“A ceasefire and negotiations with the US is unreasonable,” he said.

What are the three condition that have been violated?

The first condition of the 10-point resolution, which concerned a ceasefire in Lebanon, was not met. This was a commitment that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had explicitly stated, calling for an "immediate ceasefire everywhere, including in Lebanon and other areas, effective immediately."

An intruding drone entered Iranian airspace and was shot down over the city of Lar in Fars province, in clear violation of a condition that stated there would be no further violations of Iranian airspace.

Denying Iran the right to uranium enrichment, even though this right was included in the sixth condition of the framework.

What did the speaker say about talks?

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused US of breaching three conditions of Iran's 10-point framework.

The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said, "The practical basis on which negotiations can now be conducted has been openly and clearly broken even before the talks have begun. In such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is not appropriate."
